SUNYAY DIGEST: I got bucked off a horse.
Plus, our latest "Walk with Me" episode, Spotify playlist and THE BEST cake recipe for a birthday party.
I have failed a lot. In my career, my health, my relationships.
And I’ve recently come to grips with the fact that if I get bucked off the horse, I can save a lot of time and resources if I realize this one thing:
I only have two choices.
Walk home and let the horse gallop away.
Or.
Get back in the saddle.
No matter how scared I am, I have to get back in the saddle.
The things of my heart I’m fighting for are just too important to let run away from me.
Even if I ate half the cake. Even if the friend won’t return my texts. Even if my work has been rejected and no one seems to care.
So I’m practicing looking the horse dead in the eyes, telling it to behave itself or else, then getting my foot back in the stirrup and getting back on.
Really. What choice do I have?
This week-
Here’s how I’m nourishing my mind:
I’m making things again and letting myself be creative without fear of outcome. This week I made Poppy’s cake for her birthday. I feel real good about it until she requested a Narwhal, then I panicked. And just so you know, I took 86 pictures of this cake and two of her actual birthday party. I’m not proud of it, I’m just being honest.
I used this cake recipe for the cake. UN-FRICKIN-REAL.
Here’s how I’m nourishing my body:
We’re still walking!
I hope you’re still walking with me!
Set your goal to 10K steps a day. You don’t gotta get weird out there, just enjoy yourself.
Here’s our Episode Four, in the I’m Not Ready for This walk with me series, “The Death of Teacher’s Pet”
And every week, I also have a Spotify soundtrack for us while we walk, workout, strength train, or do the dishes. It’s our world, we can do what we want! I like to mix old school with new school. Just roll with it.
Here’s this week’s Spotify playlist to keep us jazzed all week.
Here’s how I’m nourishing my spirit:
Instead of worrying what people think, I’ve decided to worry about what God thinks. Performing for an audience of one. It takes the pressure off. It’s nearly impossible to do— but when I create because my Creator has created me to do so, then that’s my focus. Not the end result, the sales, the praise or the applause.
Am I doing what I’ve been created to do? Good. That’s enough and it always will be.
Now fingers crossed I don’t forget.
Question of the week:
Who’s your favorite?
Question:
Who’s your favorite writer?
My Answer:
David Sedaris and Anne Lamott are tied. David Sedaris has a soft, gentle, yet hilarious cadence to his writing that has taught me so much about pacing.
Anne Lamott’s Bird by Bird chapter on jealousy for writers, has saved me more times than I count.
Have a question for me too? Ask away in the comments or reply to this email.

And, of course, the best way to support me is to not only buy my books, but to get a copy for your friends and family to help support my mission to spread laughter.
Have we met? I’m Anna Lind Thomas, a humor writer out of Omaha, Nebraska. I’m listed as one of USA Today’s top ten funniest women writers, and author of the best selling book We’ll Laugh About This (Someday) and my latest - I’m Not Ready for This. Once you read them, text me (number’s in the back and I respond!). Don’t forget to say hi on Facebook and Instagram.
