Walk with Me: Biffing it in public
Listening to chapter one with some humiliating memories.
Should be a good day for a walk, except for the local wind advisory. One of the many perks of living in the great plains!
Chapter 1 is called “Only God is Perfect” and it’s a precious tale of my most humiliating public falls that have resulted in considerable injury.
Listen, no one is ever ready for an injury, amirite? Never, not once, have I thought: Today would be a great day to throw my back out.
It should be noted I have never come down with a convenient flu. Each one lasts a solid week and sets me back so far and long it threatens to destroy all my hopes and dreams.
But besides laughing at my misery, I also hoped my readers would remember this chapter when something unexpected knocks them off course.
This too shall pass. It’s true. Hold on. It will!
It always does. And we can either despair and waste that time feeling sorry for ourselves, or find some way to persevere with humor, patience and the best attitude we can muster. Considering.
And if we’re really shrewd, we might even find a way to turn it into a blessing.
I have a wonderful new friend who developed an eye disease that has made it impossible for her to continue to drive. This could be a an incredibly devastating pill to swallow. I’ll never forget what she said to me though- “Anna, if I could still drive, I’d be all over this town! My whole life I’ve been so busy. It’s forced me to slow down and be able to love and serve people in way I was never able to before.”
And she’s right. She’s had me at her home for coffee a couple times now and has mentored me in key areas I’m hoping to grow in. I know she does this for many others too.
I guess what I’m saying is- no one’s ready for pain. For BIG pauses while we recover. For setbacks, injuries or illnesses that can put us on the sidelines for much longer than we think we can tolerate.
But we do have the power within us to make the most out of it. Maybe even create blessings from it.
I like to start with a good sense of humor. Let’s start with me biffing it in public.
And try not to biff it on this walk!
See you out there,
xx
Anna
